Letter of Invitation

In an effort to combat the alarming rates of human trafficking and smuggling, particularly involving women and children, the Philippine Bureau of Immigration has taken decisive action by issuing a directive to all Immigration Personnel. The directive mandates a more stringent implementation of Immigration Departure Procedures as a means to reduce these illicit activities.

Under the new guidelines, all Philippine nationals planning to leave the country are now required to present a Letter of Invitation from a Sponsor Abroad to Immigration Officials at all Philippine ports of exit. This measure aims to ensure that individuals have a legitimate reason and support system in place for their travel abroad, thereby deterring potential cases of human trafficking and smuggling. To enhance the credibility of the letter, it must be duly notarized by a Philippine Embassy or Consulate that holds jurisdiction over the location where the Sponsor resides.

Recognizing the importance of safeguarding the welfare of its citizens, the Philippine government urges all Filipino travelers to take an additional step in their journey. They are encouraged to notify the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate of their whereabouts while traveling abroad. This voluntary measure enables the Embassy or Consulate to promptly reach out to Filipino nationals in case of emergencies or critical situations, providing them with necessary support and assistance when needed. By establishing this communication channel, the government aims to protect its citizens and ensure their well-being throughout their travels.
